Facilities and HSE Manager

About the role

Alcon is seeking a Facilities and HSE Manager to lead all building‑related activities and ensure health, safety, and environmental compliance at its 65,000 sq ft pharmaceutical R&D site in Durham, NC. Reporting to the Site Leader and sitting on the Site Leadership Team, you will partner with corporate HSE, Security and Facilities groups to keep the site operating safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily facilities, safety and hazardous waste operations for a 70‑plus staff R&D facility.
• Manage facility projects, maintenance, improvements and capital initiatives, including vendor negotiations for janitorial, HVAC, electrical and plumbing services.
• Inspect and maintain utilities, backup power and HVAC systems with vendor support.
• Prepare annual facilities and HSE budgets, forecast needs and control spend.
• Lead site HSE activities, develop the HSE Management System, conduct audits and drive risk‑management programs.
• Handle security access, incident management, chemical and wastewater waste management, and serve as Primary Emergency Coordinator.
• Support GMP operations, create/maintain SOPs, track KPIs and implement continuous‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing facilities and HSE functions in a regulated environment.
• Strong leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across multiple functions.
• Experience budgeting, forecasting and managing capital projects.
• Knowledge of GMP, regulatory HSE requirements and emergency response protocols.
