Executive Director – Preclinical Studies Institute

About the role

The Texas A&M Institute for Preclinical Studies is seeking an Executive Director to lead its world‑class research program. Reporting to the Vice President for Research, the Director will shape the institute’s strategic vision, oversee day‑to‑day operations, and drive translational science that bridges academia, industry, and clinical practice.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement the institute’s long‑term research strategy and growth plan.
• Manage budgets, compliance, facilities, and staff to ensure efficient, high‑quality operations.
• Lead and mentor multidisciplinary research teams, fostering collaboration across biomedical engineering, imaging, and device development.
• Secure external funding, build partnerships with industry and academic collaborators, and expand the research portfolio.
• Serve as a principal investigator or co‑investigator on high‑impact preclinical and translational projects.

Required profile

• PhD, MD, or equivalent with a distinguished record of scientific achievement; surgical expertise is a strong plus.
• Proven leadership experience in a complex, high‑pressure research environment.
• Demonstrated success in obtaining grant funding and managing large, multi‑disciplinary programs.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to represent the institute to external stakeholders.

Required skills

• Experience overseeing biomedical device development and advanced imaging studies.
• Strong knowledge of research compliance, budgeting, and operational management.
