Excavator Operator – $1,500 Sign-On Bonus

About the role

Layton Services is seeking an experienced Excavator Operator to operate heavy machinery for water, sewer, and storm utility installations. The role involves digging trenches to proper grades, working with single and double‑stacked boxes, and collaborating closely with site supervisors and crew members to ensure safe and efficient project completion.

Key responsibilities

• Operate excavators with precision to dig on‑grade around existing utilities and within trench boxes.
• Load and unload dump trucks efficiently while operating multiple types of machinery.
• Collaborate with pipe layers, foremen, and superintendents to follow plans and complete projects safely.
• Read and interpret site plans, specifications, and cut sheets.
• Follow OSHA and Layton Services safety regulations and maintain a safety‑first attitude.
• Perform any additional duties as required by the role.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of industry experience.
• At least 2 years of excavating experience for mainline utility installation.
• Strong knowledge of excavation, grading, trenching, and material handling techniques.
• Ability to read and follow project plans, site maps, and supervisor directions.
• Understanding of OSHA workplace safety regulations; OSHA 10‑Hour certification required.
• OSHA Trenching and Excavating certification can be obtained after hiring.
