Equipment Operator – Parks

About the role

The Parks Department seeks an Equipment Operator to safely run and maintain a variety of heavy‑duty equipment for park construction, maintenance, and seasonal tasks. The position reports to the Parks Maintenance Manager and may supervise seasonal staff in the manager’s absence.

Key responsibilities

• Operate trucks up to 50,000 lb GVW, excavators, front‑end loaders, skid loaders, self‑propelled mowers and related equipment for snow removal, landscaping, and facility installation.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance, lubrication, filter cleaning, minor mechanical adjustments, and washing.
• Maintain park grounds, including mowing, brush clearing, tree trimming, and sports‑field grooming.
• Install park and recreation equipment according to manufacturer specifications and city building codes.

Required profile

• High school diploma and valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (or obtain within 90 days).
• Experience operating heavy trucks and turf equipment; knowledge of carpentry, concrete work, and basic electrical/plumbing preferred.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, lift up to 75 lb, and perform physically demanding tasks.

Required skills

• Operation and routine maintenance of heavy equipment (excavator, front‑end loader, skid loader, self‑propelled mower, landscape rake).
• Reading and interpreting blueprints, grading plans, and park‑maintenance regulations.
• Knowledge of traffic laws, irrigation systems, and sports‑field grooming practices.
