Environmental Health County Manager

About the role

The Environmental Health County Manager leads the comprehensive environmental health program for Baldwin and Hancock Counties, overseeing inspections, permitting, compliance, and public health initiatives. Reporting to the District Environmental Health Director, this position ensures community safety and regulatory adherence.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and manage the annual Environmental Health budget for Baldwin County.
• Supervise environmental health staff, including environmentalists and administrative assistants.
• Oversee inspection, permitting, and compliance for food service, tourist accommodations, public swimming pools, body art, and land use programs.
• Manage additional programs such as wastewater management, well water permitting, rabies control, and emergency preparedness.
• Investigate health‑related complaints and provide technical assistance to the public and elected officials.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree with at least 27 semester hours in laboratory science.
• Two years experience as a PH Environmental Compliance Specialist 4 or equivalent, or demonstrated lead experience for a county.
• Preferred: Master's degree, REHS or RS certification, and supervisory experience.

Required skills

• Knowledge of state, local, and federal environmental health laws and regulations.
• Ability to interpret and enforce compliance standards across multiple program areas.
