Entry-Level Water Distribution Operator

About the role

The Water Distribution Operator I is an entry‑level position with Golden State Water Company, responsible for learning and supporting the operation and maintenance of a municipal water distribution system in California.

Key responsibilities

• Learn to perform maintenance and operation tasks for the water distribution system.
• Assist in installation, repair, and replacement of water mains, services, valves, fire hydrants, and meters under supervision.
• Conduct meter reads, on‑off readings, and field investigations.
• Collect delinquent accounts and interact with customers as a company representative.
• Participate in routine maintenance such as system flushing, valve exercising, and hydrant upkeep.
• Follow established policies for equipment repair and operate company vehicles safely.
• Be available for 24/7 emergency response and reside within 25 miles of the assigned system boundary.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Good communication skills and general PC proficiency.
• Valid California driver’s license.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions and perform physical tasks such as standing, climbing, lifting, and bending.
• Trustworthiness, accountability, teamwork orientation, emotional maturity, professionalism, organization, and initiative.
