Entry-Level Systems & Applications Engineer (i.MX)

About the role

NXP's Edge Processing business unit builds embedded processors and microcontrollers for consumer electronics, wearables, healthcare, smart homes and networking. This entry-level Systems & Applications Engineer position is in Austin, Texas, within the Microcontroller Systems Engineering Team, which supports the i.MX processor family. You will report to the MPU Systems Manager and work closely with customers, partners and the worldwide IC design team.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the focal point and become an expert in all NXP i.MX processors, with training provided.
• Support customers through product development, board bring-up, software development and system-level debug, covering evaluation, design-in and production phases.
• Help customers use NXP hardware platforms, reference designs and software such as u-boot, Linux and Android.
• Take part in product enhancements via the NPI process and build firmware, demos and materials, including application, driver and multimedia demos.
• Perform technical feasibility studies, build reference designs and write application notes, white papers and developer guides.
• Review reference manuals and data sheets and contribute to developer and ease-of-use manuals.
• Work with marketing, SOC design, architecture, validation and application teams to define PCB reference design and validation board specifications for new SoCs.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science; Master's degree preferred.
• Up to 2 years of experience.
• High proficiency in embedded systems on chip, especially ARM Cortex architecture, and in software debugging tools for viewing and programming processor registers.
• Highly proficient in C programming.
• Experience in embedded software development and debug, including Linux, Android, kernel modules and device drivers.
• Technical writing skills for application notes, white papers and user guides.
• Familiarity with multimedia and graphics technologies (OpenGL, 3D graphics, video decode, GStreamer) is a major plus.
