Entry Aviation Software Test Engineer – Defense Sensors

About the role

Leidos' Kinetic Effects Business Area in the Defense Sector is hiring an entry Aviation Software Test Engineer to work onsite in its Huntsville office. The role helps test and develop software for tactical strike, sensors, CUAS and UAS solutions, covering automated testing, test infrastructure and frameworks, integration testing, informal manual testing, formal software qualification testing, fielding, support and maintenance of products such as analysis tools, simulations and mission planning software.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in test planning, test strategy and design, test execution, software engineering processes and product quality recommendations.
• Review, edit and generate engineering and testing documents according to industry standards.
• Develop automated scripts in Linux for a variety of applications.
• Work as part of an agile software team for tasking and progress reporting.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, or two years of relevant technical experience or a Master's degree.
• Recent experience with software development and/or writing test scripts in C++, Python or Java.
• Experience with manual and automated test tools and techniques, and developing test methods and procedures with scripting or compiled languages.
• Working knowledge of Windows and Linux, familiarity with Microsoft Office, good communication skills, and willingness to relocate to the Huntsville-North Alabama area.
• US citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
• Preferred: UI test automation experience, software written to MIL-STD-882E and DISA STIGs, and experience with Agentic AI coding tools.

Pay range: $69,550 - $125,725.
