Energy Engineer

About the role

Energy Sciences is hiring an Energy Engineer in its Engineering and Consulting Services department, based in Southern or Central Illinois with a home-based office. The role involves site work and uses a personal vehicle, with up to 75% travel. The engineer helps institutional stakeholders manage energy use by delivering reports with implementable projects that reduce energy consumption in buildings.

Key responsibilities

• Manage projects in a fast-paced consulting environment
• Conduct ASHRAE Level I and II energy assessments, including identification of energy conservation measures
• Visit customers and service providers on site during assessments
• Manage, direct and hold accountable assigned projects so they stay on schedule and deliver high-quality results
• Calculate energy savings for system or equipment changes using calculation tools, spreadsheets and accepted methodologies
• Interpret supply-side energy use and cost data from customers, clients or utilities
• Explain assessment results to a diverse audience and draft final reports for stakeholders

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
• Two or more years of energy efficiency experience
• Ability to handle several ASHRAE energy assessments at once and to work independently and in teams
• Strong project management, communication and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable doing fieldwork and explaining technical topics to people with different levels of understanding
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship; no immigration sponsorship offered

Required skills

• ASHRAE Level I and II energy assessments
• Cooling and heating systems, boilers and chillers, refrigeration and compressed air systems
• Proficiency with MS Office and understanding of SharePoint
