Energy Analyst / Senior Energy Analyst (SmartBidder)

About the role

Ascend Analytics is building a pipeline of Energy Analyst and Senior Energy Analyst candidates for its SmartBidder product, a bid optimization and scheduling platform for renewable energy and storage projects. The role is based in Boulder, CO on a hybrid schedule (3 days in office, 2 days remote), and applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis as openings arise.

Key responsibilities

• Lead quantitative analysis and deliver on-time results to clients
• Model electricity markets to support electricity trading and advise on asset valuation, risk management and renewable integration
• Advise clients on energy commodity trading, quantitative market analysis, market operations and power structuring
• Monitor regulatory changes and their impact on market operations and strategies
• Take part in on-call rotations for real-time market operations, which may include occasional weekends or evenings
• Turn complex information into clear reports and presentations, and serve as a technical resource for project scoping, build, deployment and launch

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in economics, engineering or energy
• 1+ years of energy experience (5+ years for a Senior Analyst) with a utility, consulting firm, government or non-profit
• Understanding of energy modeling systems and methods
• Knowledge of wholesale power market structures and value streams
• Demonstrated track record with clients and teams, and ability to prioritize and solve problems with minimal supervision

Required skills

• Strong analytical skills in interpreting and explaining complex data
• Preferred: proficiency in R, Python or other programming languages; knowledge of deregulated power markets; project management experience

What we offer

• Salary of $80,000-$110,000 for the analyst role and $100,000-$140,000 for the senior role, depending on experience
