Energy Analyst / Senior Energy Analyst (PowerVAL)

About the role

Ascend Analytics is hiring an Energy Analyst or Senior Energy Analyst for its PowerVAL product, which delivers project valuations across generation asset classes and U.S. power markets. The role sits in Boulder, CO and is offered hybrid or remote, with a preference for candidates who can work from the Boulder office.

Key responsibilities

• Help clients make strategic decisions on the development, acquisition and financing of their energy assets.
• Analyze power market operations using in-house software and commercial production cost modeling tools.
• Turn complex information into clear reports and presentations for utilities, IPPs and other stakeholders.
• Advise clients on how market evolution affects revenue forecasts, asset valuation, risk management, public policy and renewable integration.
• Solve complex analytic problems and serve as the go-to resource for client decisions.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field; economics, engineering or energy strongly preferred.
• 1+ years of experience in a power or electricity role (3+ years required for Senior Analyst).
• Working knowledge of wholesale power market structures and deregulated electricity markets.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret and communicate complex data.

Preferred qualifications

• Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in a quantitative field.
• Python or R proficiency.
• Production cost modeling software (PROMOD, PLEXOS, Aurora, PSO).
• For Senior Analyst: direct experience with long-term price forecasting, project valuation, dispatch modeling, risk management or project finance.

• Salary of $80,000-$110,000 for the Energy Analyst and $100,000-$140,000 for the Senior Analyst, tailored to experience.
