Energy Analyst / Senior Energy Analyst (PowerSIMM)

About the role

Ascend Analytics is hiring an Energy Analyst or Senior Energy Analyst for its PowerSIMM product, based in Boulder, CO, on a hybrid or remote basis. PowerSIMM gives utilities, independent power producers, data centers and commercial and industrial companies the intelligence to plan and operate power supply, helping them minimize costs and maximize asset returns. The analyst works with utilities, developers, IPPs, large energy consumers and government agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Provide modeling and analysis for clients, and troubleshoot and validate model outputs
• Perform quantitative analysis combining technical considerations, economic factors, market rules and regulatory/policy developments
• Advise clients on risk management, asset valuation and resource planning, explaining results and modeling approaches clearly
• Turn complex information into understandable reports, visualizations and presentations
• Own projects end to end and ensure timely completion
• Use analytical tools such as Excel, Python or R

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as economics or engineering; a master's or other advanced degree in a highly quantitative field is preferred
• 2+ years of prior work experience in energy (5+ years for a Senior Analyst) with a utility, consulting firm, government or non-profit
• Wholesale energy market experience is highly preferred
• Strong quantitative analytical skills, teamwork, communication and organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize and solve problems with minimal supervision

What we offer

• Salary of $80,000-$110,000 for the Energy Analyst and $100,000-$140,000 for the Senior Analyst, depending on experience
