Endowed Chair of Music Therapy & Professor of Music

About the role

The Louisiana State University seeks a visionary leader to fill the Cordell and Ava Haymon Endowed Chair of Music Therapy, a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The chair will guide the rapidly expanding Music Therapy program within the School of Music, shaping education, research, and clinical practice across the Gulf South region.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the Music Therapy program, including curriculum development and expansion of graduate offerings.
• Develop and sustain interdisciplinary research collaborations with LSU Health campuses, the AgCenter, Pennington Biomedical Research Center, and community partners.
• Secure external funding and manage endowed resources to support innovative research, clinical partnerships, and faculty/student development.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor students, and supervise clinical practicum experiences.
• Represent the School of Music in university‑wide initiatives and external professional organizations.

Required profile

• Doctorate (Ph.D. or DMA) in Music Therapy or a closely related field.
• Evidence of scholarly productivity, grant acquisition, and leadership in music therapy education.
• Experience collaborating with healthcare institutions and conducting interdisciplinary research.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching and research.
