Employment Specialist

About the role

The International Rescue Committee seeks an Employment Specialist to help newly arrived refugees and qualified immigrants achieve self‑sufficiency through employment. You will guide clients through job preparation, placement, and ongoing career support.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct intake, assessments, and program orientation for eligible clients.
• Develop individualized employment plans and budgeting strategies.
• Provide job‑readiness coaching, connect clients with job opportunities, and cultivate relationships with employers and staffing agencies.
• Assist with post‑placement issues, monitor job performance and wages, and maintain detailed client records.
• Travel within the service area using a personal vehicle or public transport to support clients.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of workforce development experience, preferably with refugee or immigrant populations.
• Strong relationship‑building, networking, and multicultural communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to use internet and digital tools for data entry and research.
