Electronic Technician – Traffic Signal Maintenance

About the role
The Electronic Technician supports the Department of Transportation and Development by performing maintenance, repairs, and preventative work on traffic signal systems and related Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) equipment. This role ensures that roadways remain safe and functional for the public.
Key responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance on traffic signals, computerized signal controllers, video cameras, and other ITS devices.
- Troubleshoot programming issues of computerized traffic signal controllers and related equipment.
- Assist senior technicians during shop callouts and project work.
- Conduct visual inspections of signal equipment, identify safety defects, and estimate repair feasibility.
- Support traffic signal construction projects and participate in final equipment inspections.
- Maintain inventory of parts for routine and emergency repairs.
- Program computerized traffic signal controllers with engineering assistance.
- Transfer and maintain traffic signal timing data using laptops, tablets, or handheld devices.
Required profile
- Two years of experience or training in maintenance/repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic/electrical systems; OR two years in installation/repair/maintenance of computer hardware or software; OR CompTIA A+ certification plus one year of relevant experience.
- Six semester hours of accredited college coursework in electronics or computer science may substitute for one year of required experience.
- Must hold a valid Federal Communications Commission (FCC) radio‑telephone license when working with marine, aviation transmitting equipment, or radar.
