Electrical Engineer – Defense Programs

About the role

Gibbs and Cox, part of Leidos, is seeking an Electrical Engineer for its Newport News, Virginia office to support various defense-related programs. The engineer works with engineering and production teams developing solutions to challenging defense problems, reports to the Electrical Engineering Department Manager and interfaces with Program Managers on various contracts. The role covers change orders and planning activities supporting program objectives and milestones.

Key responsibilities

• Perform calculations and apply electrical engineering principles to technical issues arising during the design and engineering of US Navy ships and other marine vessels
• Communicate technical principles directly to clients
• Perform quality assurance reviews of simple analyses, calculations and drawings
• Record and track action items and meeting minutes, and create and manage meeting invites
• Review change proposals to ensure they meet specifications and requirements

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship required; ability to obtain a security clearance, including passing a security investigation
• B.S. degree or higher in Electrical Engineering
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, solid organization and time management
• Proven collaboration with management, peers and staff, and proven interaction with customers on technical and programmatic issues
• Flexibility and resourcefulness

Required skills

• Proficiency in standard electrical system design and analysis
• Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint and Excel
• Preferred: Shipyard production systems, shipboard medium and low voltage power systems, 60 Hz and 400 Hz electrical plant, and power conversion
• Preferred: CAD, AutoCAD, Rhino, ETAP and other electrical modeling software; knowledge of MIL standards and specifications; U.S. Navy experience

The pay range is $57,850 to $104,575.
