Educational Liaison Tutor for Tribal Children

About the role

The Educational Liaison Tutor works directly with Tribal children both during school hours and after‑school programs to support academic achievement and personal growth. This full‑time position is based in Colusa and aligns with the mission of the Colusa Indian Community Council.

Key responsibilities

• Provide in‑school and after‑school tutoring in core subjects, adapting curriculum for students with mild to moderate learning disabilities.
• Communicate regularly with teachers and parents to monitor progress, share grade reports, and advocate for each student’s needs.
• Plan and implement educational activities that motivate and build confidence.
• Transport students to and from tutoring sessions and prepare light snacks as needed.
• Serve as a liaison between the Tribal community and educational agencies, supporting parents in understanding their rights and accessing resources.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework in Education, Child Development, or related field preferred.
• At least one year of experience working with youth or families, preferably with tutoring or paraprofessional duties.
• Valid California driver’s license, CPR/First‑Aid certification, and clear criminal and child‑abuse background checks.
• Ability to stand, walk, and occasionally lift up to 25‑50 lb.

Required skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with students, parents, and school staff.
• Knowledge of California academic standards and experience supporting diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment and adapt instructional methods to individual learner needs.
