District Chief, DD-1

About the role

The Texas Division of Emergency Management seeks a District Chief to lead emergency management activities across the assigned district, coordinating with local, state, and federal partners to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and operate the Disaster District Emergency Operations Center (DDEOC) during incidents and coordinate the Disaster District Committee.
• Facilitate state emergency management programs, including mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery efforts within the district.
• Manage requests for state assistance, allocate resources, and oversee deployment of state, federal, and out‑of‑state assets.
• Provide guidance on hazard mitigation, public assistance, and disaster recovery programs to local jurisdictions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience; five years of progressive emergency management experience.
• Demonstrated ability to work irregular hours, travel extensively, and operate in high‑stress disaster environments.

Required skills

• Knowledge of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS).
• Experience managing an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and coordinating multi‑agency disaster response.
