Director, South Texas Institute for the Arts

About the role

The Director serves as the chief executive and chief fundraising officer of the Art Museum of South Texas, reporting to the President and CEO of Texas A&M University‑Corpus Christi. This senior leader provides strategic vision, financial sustainability, and community engagement for one of the Gulf Coast’s premier cultural institutions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide visionary leadership and develop strategic initiatives to increase attendance, membership, philanthropic support and organizational effectiveness.
• Lead fundraising efforts, cultivate donor relationships, and secure support for operations, collections, programs and capital projects.
• Oversee all museum operations, manage annual operating and capital budgets, and ensure compliance with university policies and professional museum standards.
• Support the development and presentation of high‑quality exhibitions and educational programs while stewarding the permanent collection.
• Strengthen partnerships with educational institutions, cultural organizations, tourism partners and community agencies.
• Recruit, develop and mentor staff, and work closely with the Board of Trustees to advance strategic priorities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, Arts Administration, Art History, Business Administration, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• 10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in a museum, nonprofit, educational institution or similar environment (or equivalent experience with a master’s or doctoral degree).

Required skills

• Proven success in fundraising, donor cultivation, grant writing and revenue generation.
• Strong oral and written communication, public speaking and relationship‑building abilities.
• Experience managing budgets, financial reporting and strategic planning.
• Ability to motivate, mentor and lead professional staff.
• Deep appreciation for visual arts and the role of museums in education and community development.
