Director, Product Regulatory Strategy - Property Insurance Data & AI
Moody's · Newark
Job description
About the role
Moody's is hiring a Director, Product Regulatory Strategy for its Property Intelligence team, which delivers AI-powered property analytics to the property and casualty insurance industry. The role leads regulatory acceptance of the products across US states, from filings and approvals to regulator relationships, and advises product leadership on how emerging regulation shapes the product roadmap. It reports to Property Intelligence and Insurance leadership and leads a small regulatory team.
Key responsibilities
- Lead regulatory acceptance of Moody's Property Intelligence products across US states, from filings and approvals to regulator relationships, and help shape a product roadmap.
- Build an independent view of emerging regulation across underwriting, property data, aerial imagery and artificial intelligence, and translate it into product requirements.
- Resolve carrier filing issues and regulator objections, working with client success and sales to remove roadblocks to client adoption, renewal and expansion.
- Create client-facing regulatory materials (state filing guidance, interrogatory and questionnaire responses, model documentation, FAQs) and lead on-site regulatory presentations and state-by-state deep dives.
- Own a state-by-state filing roadmap and lead direct model filings and objection responses through approval, including registration and model filing obligations for third-party data and model providers.
- Set consistent positions on recurring regulator requests, balance transparency with IP protection, and build working relationships with actuarial and rate review staff at state insurance departments.
- Represent Moody's in NAIC working groups and task forces on property data and models, coordinating with Government, Public and Regulatory Affairs and the RMS regulatory team.
- Lead and develop a regulatory product manager and direct external actuarial or regulatory partners.
Required profile
- 10 or more years in property and casualty insurance product, actuarial or regulatory roles, with a record of state rate and rule filings and objection responses taken through approval.
- Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, risk management, insurance, law, public policy or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
- Strong experience using AI tools to lead innovation initiatives, and demonstrated leadership in managing AI-related risks and ethical governance.
- Ability to anticipate regulatory developments and present clearly to regulators, clients and executives.
- Experience leading or mentoring others and directing external partners.
Required skills
- Working knowledge of property rating and underwriting, and of how carriers use third-party data and predictive models in regulatory filings.
- Hands-on model development experience preferred; experience leading regulatory work for an insurer, data or analytics provider that files third-party models is preferred.
- Familiarity with regulatory questions raised by AI, machine learning and aerial imagery is preferred.
- Casualty Actuarial Society Associate or Fellow membership, or equivalent regulatory or legal depth, strongly preferred; Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation desired.
What we offer
- Anticipated base salary range of $183,300 to $265,800 for a full-time US-based role, plus incentive compensation.
- Benefits including medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, 401(k), life, disability and accident insurance, a discounted employee stock purchase plan and tuition reimbursement.
