Director, Operations

About the role

The Director of Operations and Planning partners with the Department Head of Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M Engineering to lead administrative and operational functions. This senior position provides strategic oversight, coordinates cross‑functional initiatives, and ensures the department runs efficiently and effectively.

Key responsibilities

• Translate departmental goals into actionable plans, monitor progress, and remove barriers to timely project completion.
• Provide executive‑level analysis, recommendations, and decision support on operational and organizational matters.
• Lead special projects that improve departmental effectiveness, performance, and stakeholder experience.
• Oversee day‑to‑day administrative operations, budgeting, resource allocation, and process improvement.
• Collaborate with faculty, staff, and external partners to align initiatives with the department’s mission.

Required profile

• Proven experience in senior operations or administrative leadership, preferably in higher education or research environments.
• Strong judgment, independence, and ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Excellent organizational, planning, and project‑management capabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to drive cross‑functional collaboration and deliver results.
