Director of University Farm Operations

About the role

The Director of University Farm Operations leads the University Agricultural Laboratory (UAL), the field‑based laboratory supporting instruction, research, outreach and community engagement within the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology. Reporting to the Dean and overseen by the Provost, this full‑time, twelve‑month position provides strategic leadership to ensure the UAL fulfills its mission.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the overall financial health and long‑term fiscal sustainability of the UAL, including budgeting and tracking enterprise unit finances.
• Hire, train, supervise and evaluate UAL staff and enterprise unit managers, develop position descriptions and address HR matters.
• Oversee the upkeep, safety, functionality and professional appearance of UAL lands, facilities, infrastructure and equipment.
• Determine and procure materials, supplies, machinery, tools and contracted services with attention to cost‑effectiveness.
• Develop and implement strategic plans that align the UAL with the Jordan College’s mission and goals.
• Collaborate with department chairs, faculty, staff and community partners to meet operational needs.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing agricultural or laboratory operations in a higher‑education or research setting.
• Strong financial management skills, including budget development and fiscal oversight.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise and develop staff.
• Experience in strategic planning and implementation.
• Ability to work collaboratively with academic and community stakeholders.
