Director of Operations – Hunger Prevention Programs

About the role

The Director of Operations leads YMCA’s hunger‑prevention initiatives, overseeing mobile markets, grocery‑bag distribution, warehouse functions and community partnerships to deliver over 2.5 million meals annually across Greater Boston.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for mobile markets, grocery‑bag programs, warehouse operations and food procurement.
• Coordinate schedules, routes, partner calendars and logistics to ensure safe, efficient and equitable service delivery.
• Manage inventory through the Inventory Management System, maintain data integrity and drive process improvements.
• Supervise staff, drivers, volunteers and seasonal employees, handling recruitment, training, performance reviews and SOP development.
• Ensure compliance with YMCA policies, Greater Boston Food Bank requirements, grant regulations and food‑safety standards, conducting audits and corrective‑action plans.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 5‑7 years of progressive leadership experience in operations, logistics, warehouse or food‑distribution settings.
• Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience managing staff, volunteers and cross‑functional teams.
• Experience with community‑based food‑access programs and partnership management.

Required skills

• Proficiency with inventory management systems and data reporting tools.
• Strong knowledge of food‑safety regulations and compliance processes.
• Expertise in procurement, logistics planning and warehouse operations.
• Ability to analyze operational data, develop KPIs and drive continuous improvement.
