Director of Legal for Hospital & Health System

About the role

The Director of Legal provides strategic legal counsel to operational and clinical leadership across Lehigh Valley Health Network. This senior attorney partners with hospital and health system leaders to ensure compliance, manage risk, and support the delivery of high‑quality patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Advise hospitals, physician practices, ambulatory locations and affiliated entities on federal and state healthcare laws, regulations, accreditation standards and industry best practices.
• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of agreements with providers, vendors, service providers and third‑party partners.
• Collaborate with Compliance, Risk Management, Internal Audit and Regulatory teams to identify and resolve legal and regulatory issues.
• Support physician group operations, including practice expansion, contracting, credentialing, privileging and governance matters.
• Assist with regulatory reviews, government investigations, surveys and accreditation processes.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor from an ABA‑accredited law school and admission to the Pennsylvania Bar (licensed attorney upon hire).
• Minimum 5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in a hospital or health‑system environment.
• Strong drafting, negotiation and legal analysis abilities with a solution‑oriented approach.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven setting.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of healthcare regulations, including fraud and abuse, self‑referral (Stark), privacy (HIPAA) and licensure requirements.
• Experience translating complex legal requirements into practical policies, workflows and risk‑mitigation strategies.
