Director of Instructional Design

About the role

Alchemy seeks a hands‑on Director of Instructional Design to lead how customers and the internal design team leverage Curie, the AI‑enabled course design software. You will act as the instructional design voice of the company, coaching customers, setting design standards, and ensuring high‑quality delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Advise and train customers on Curie implementation through onboarding sessions, workshops, and faculty guidance.
• Provide day‑to‑day direction to a distributed team of instructional designers and contractors, setting project scope and assigning work.
• Establish and maintain instructional design standards, ensuring accessibility (WCAG) and quality (Quality Matters) compliance.
• Serve as subject‑matter expert for product development, testing new features and feeding customer insights back to the team.
• Scope instructional design work for RFPs and proposals, partner with project management to deliver projects on time and budget, and lead projects when needed.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or related field (or bachelor's with equivalent experience).
• 5+ years of instructional design experience in higher education, including online and hybrid courses.
• 2+ years leading or directing instructional designers, preferably remote teams.
• Strong knowledge of instructional design models (ADDIE, backward design, UDL) and faculty consulting.

Required skills

• Proficiency with LMS platforms such as Canvas, Blackboard, D2L Brightspace, Moodle.
• Experience using AI tools and authoring tools like Articulate Suite, H5P.
• Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1/2.2) and testing.
• Ability to test software and provide structured feedback to product teams.
