Director of Human Resource Services

About the role

The Cleveland Clinic Health System seeks an experienced, hands‑on Human Resources leader to serve as Director of Human Resource Services at its Main Campus. The role partners with institute, division and hospital leadership to align HR strategies with operational needs and to create a positive, productive work environment for caregivers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute HR strategic plans aligned with business goals and workforce planning.
• Build and maintain relationships with HR Centers of Excellence to drive initiatives such as workforce planning, benefits, compensation, talent acquisition, wellness, learning, HRIS and analytics.
• Direct and oversee HR Services staff, identifying improvement opportunities and driving process enhancements.
• Analyze HR and business metrics to identify trends, solve problems and influence change.
• Provide leadership development guidance and serve as a trusted strategic advisor to executive teams.
• Manage employee relations, complex complaints, risk assessment and compliance with labor laws.
• Oversee collective bargaining agreements, contract interpretation and negotiations when applicable.
• Participate in institute, division and hospital leadership councils and mentor HR professionals.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or related field.
• Minimum 8 years progressive HR experience, including at least 3 years in management or coaching roles.
• Strong communication, analytical and relationship‑building skills.
• In‑depth knowledge of employment and labor laws (FLSA, OSHA, FMLA, ADA, NLRA, etc.).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Preferred: Master’s degree, HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM‑CP, SHRM‑SCP) and healthcare experience.
