Director of Fabrication and Facility Operations

About the role

The Director of Fabrication and Facility Operations leads the Texas A&M Semiconductor Institute’s newly built semiconductor research facility, ensuring safe, efficient, and high‑quality operation of a full suite of process tools.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction for facility operations, aligning with institutional goals and driving innovation.
• Lead planning, commissioning, and upgrades of equipment and major projects, managing timelines and budgets.
• Oversee daily operations, including user access, equipment scheduling, supply ordering, and technical support.
• Develop and enforce safety, quality, and compliance policies, and manage audits and inspections.
• Supervise and mentor a multidisciplinary team, fostering professional development.

Required profile

• Extensive hands‑on experience with semiconductor process tools and cleanroom systems.
• Proven leadership in managing complex facility operations and budgets.
• Strong ability to train staff and research users and to drive continuous improvement.

Required skills

• Photolithography, thin‑film deposition, plasma and wet etch, diffusion/thermal processing, post‑wafer processing.
• Cleanroom mechanical systems, vacuum pumps, deionized water systems.
• Software and hardware control systems for fab equipment.
