Director of Development & Fundraising
eqltech · San Francisco
Job description
About the role
EQL Tech is partnering with a philanthropic foundation to hire a Director of Development & Fundraising to build its fundraising function from the ground up. The foundation is behind the largest urban sculpture trail in the world, with up to 100 large-scale works planned across 34 miles of San Francisco; 25 are already installed and nearly 25 more planned this year. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director runs corporate partnerships, foundation and institutional giving, donor stewardship, gift operations and the major gifts pipeline.
Key responsibilities
- Major gifts: build and run the major gifts pipeline, prepare the CEO for donor meetings with briefing memos and prospect research, and track follow-up.
- Corporate, foundation and institutional giving: own end-to-end corporate partnerships and sponsorships, and lead foundation and institutional prospecting, LOIs, proposals, reporting and relationship management.
- Stewardship and operations: design donor stewardship (acknowledgments, naming opportunities, communications) and run development operations (CRM hygiene, gift processing, pledge tracking, reporting).
- Events and board: partner on fundraising events such as donor walks, dinners and unveilings, and support the board on giving.
- Look ahead: help architect the path to a capital campaign as the project grows toward 100 works.
Required profile
- 7+ years in development, with proven success closing five- and six-figure gifts and managing seven-figure relationships.
- Track record building or scaling a development function, ideally in a lean or early-stage environment.
- Cross-trained across at least two of individual major gifts, corporate partnerships, or foundation/institutional giving.
- Polished written and verbal communication, including donor correspondence and proposal writing.
- High discretion with confidential donor and financial information, strong organization and project management.
- Nice to have: CRM experience (Salesforce, Raiser's Edge), use of AI tools, arts/civic nonprofit experience, capital campaign experience, and a donor and corporate network in the San Francisco Bay Area.
What we offer
- Salary of approximately $150,000, commensurate with experience.
- Full-time, at-will, W-2 position based in San Francisco, with regular in-person presence for donor meetings, events and unveilings.
