Director of Commercial Construction Operations

About the role

David Nice Builders is seeking a seasoned construction executive to lead its Commercial Division as Director of Commercial Construction Operations. This senior leadership position carries full P&L accountability, reports directly to the President and Vice President, and is responsible for setting strategy, delivering projects, developing the team, and driving growth across private, federal, public-sector, and design-build work.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the Commercial Division’s annual operating plan and strategy aligned with company growth goals.
• Provide executive oversight on all active projects, ensuring on-time, on-budget, high-quality delivery and chairing project reviews.
• Lead early-stage budgeting, constructability reviews, pricing strategy, and client presentations for design-build opportunities.
• Directly lead, coach, and develop project managers and field leadership, building bench strength and a culture of accountability.
• Own the division P&L, enforce financial controls, deliver strong margins, and partner with Finance on forecasting.
• Build and maintain key client relationships, drive repeat business, and support pursuit of federal and public-sector work.

Required profile

• 15+ years of progressive commercial construction experience, including at least 5 years in senior leadership.
• Proven success delivering complex commercial projects using general contracting, CM-at-risk, and design-build delivery methods.
• Strong financial acumen with experience managing division-level profitability.
• Proficiency with construction project management software such as Procore, Viewpoint, Primavera P6 or MS Project.
