Director of Banquets

About the role

Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue, a 207-room hotel near the Bala Cynwyd Business District, is looking for a Director of Banquets. The role manages the banquet department of a property with 500+ rooms in line with guest service and sustainability standards, and offers a potential career path to Director of Food and Beverage.

Key responsibilities

• Interview, hire, train, evaluate performance, resolve problems and recommend discipline or termination when appropriate.
• Maintain positive guest relationships and make sure banquet functions meet guest specifications.
• Work closely with the catering department to fix service or communication gaps.
• Supervise and inspect function room set-ups for cleanliness and proper inventory.
• Oversee serving staff so that alcohol service complies with federal, state, local and corporate rules.
• Ensure cash-handling policies are followed and that accounting practices support SOX compliance.
• Enter billing data into the point-of-sale system to generate final guest checks.
• Check staff attendance against schedules and reassign server stations as needed.
• Set and maintain service standards through training of core staff in in-service meetings.
• Follow safe work habits, protective equipment, MSDS and OSHA standards, and perform other duties requested by management.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• 3 to 5 years of banquet experience required.
• Schedule varies and may include holidays, alternate shifts and weekends; requires standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds and bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling or crouching.
