Usher - Fox Theatre

About the role

The Fox Theatre in Detroit is looking for an usher to act as an ambassador and provide first-class customer service to every guest at every event. The role covers welcoming guests, keeping the seating area safe and organized, and being ready to help at all ticketed events.

Key responsibilities

• Welcome guests warmly, help them find their seats and answer questions or needs during their visit.
• Monitor crowd behavior and keep the event enjoyable for everyone.
• Be the first responder to issues in the seating area and call for assistance when needed.
• Keep the seating area safe and organized, making sure guests are in the right seats and the area is free of messes and hazards.
• Scan tickets on entry and make sure no one enters without a valid ticket.
• Guard doors and stairways so guests stay in the proper areas.
• Recognize regulars by name when appropriate and engage guests whenever possible.
• Work all ticketed events and learn the seating, layout and policies of each venue.

Required profile

• High school diploma and one to two years of customer service experience.
• Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and numbers.
• Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide two-digit numbers and use American money, weight, volume and distance measurements.
• Ability to follow detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions and handle problems with a few concrete variables.
• Irregular and extended hours, including nights, weekends and holidays; ability to climb stairs and stand for long periods; occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts and outside weather; loud environment.
