About the role
The Director of Athletic Communication leads the promotion of the university's varsity sports programs. This senior position shapes media relations, digital storytelling, and statistical reporting to enhance the visibility of athletics across local, regional, and national platforms.
Key responsibilities
- Manage athletic statistics and reporting for 17 varsity sports, ensuring timely submission to the CACC, NCAA, and the university website.
- Create and distribute communications content, including feature stories, news releases, and social media posts, adhering to the University Style Guide.
- Serve as the primary media relations contact, maintaining media lists and responding to information requests.
- Oversee game‑day and event communications, supervise student workers, and support game management functions.
- Collaborate with University Marketing & Communications, Public Relations, and other campus partners on institutional initiatives and represent the department on committees and conference groups.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in communication, media relations, public relations, or a related field.
- Minimum three years of experience in athletic communications at an NCAA institution.
- Strong writing, editing, and attention‑to‑detail skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
Required skills
- Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
- Proficiency with Windows and Mac operating systems.
- Experience with social media platforms.
- Knowledge of statistical software such as NCAA LiveStats.
- Familiarity with webcasting, video editing, and digital photography.
