Director of Advising and Retention

About the role

The Director of Advising and Retention leads institution‑wide academic advising and retention services at Texas A&M University‑Central Texas, ensuring they are grounded in best practices and student development theory.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate academic advising and retention services across the campus.
• Lead change‑management initiatives related to advising structures, workflows, and technology adoption.
• Establish, monitor, and report on key performance indicators for department staff.
• Allocate fiscal and personnel resources and advocate for additional resources.
• Collaborate with deans, department chairs, and campus partners to align advising services with program needs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Master’s preferred).
• Eight years of higher‑education experience, including three years in academic advising.
• Three years of supervisory experience.
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Required skills

• Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
• Knowledge of budget management and strategic planning.
• Experience with higher‑education software such as Banner, DegreeWorks, and Civitas Learning platforms.
