Director, AI/ML Driven ASIC Design and Implementation Automation

About the role

NXP is looking for a Director of AI/ML driven ASIC Design and Implementation Automation within its AI & Chip Engineering (ACE) organization. The role explores methodologies, flows and tools to improve power, performance, area and quality for SoC and IP development teams, and connects with AI/ML and automation experts in industry and academia. It works on actual designs to pilot and develop automation for automotive processors and advanced microcontrollers.

Key responsibilities

• Explore research ideas and solutions that bring AI/ML applications to VLSI design
• Work with academic research communities in AI/ML for VLSI design, architecture teams, IP and SoC designers, and SoC implementation teams across multiple sites
• Evaluate GenAI, reinforcement learning, graph neural networks and convolutional networks for SoC technologies serving multiple industries
• Prescribe key methods and requirements for tools and features to leverage for ASIC design
• Develop prototype solutions to evaluate state-of-the-art AI/ML techniques and drive digital transformation initiatives across engineering teams

Required profile

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related discipline
• 7+ years of experience in AI and ML techniques (LLMs, CNN, RNN, GraphNN) applied to real-world optimization problems
• Strong analytical problem-solving and verbal/written communication skills

Required skills

• Programming in Python/C++
• Data structures, algorithms and software development for optimization problems
• Unix/Linux, Git, BitBucket, software development and debug tools
• Desirable: design, layout and constraint flows (SDC, clocks, CDC, RDC), static timing analysis, low-power and power-aware flows (UPF)
• Desirable: VLSI CAD methodology and tool development, HDL (System Verilog, Verilog, VHDL), EDA tools, and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, LSF and Make
