Diagnostic Technician – Bacteriology

About the role

The Diagnostic Technician in the Bacteriology section supports Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory by preparing and testing animal specimens for bacterial and fungal analysis. This position works in a high‑volume laboratory environment, handling a variety of sample types to provide timely, accurate diagnostic results.

Key responsibilities

• Retrieve, visually inspect, and catalog animal samples (blood, urine, feces, tissue, isolates).
• Perform bacterial and fungal cultures and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
• Identify microorganisms using mass‑spectrometry based techniques.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure proper sample tracking.
• Follow standard operating procedures and troubleshoot routine issues under supervision.
