Diagnostic Laboratory Technician I – Histology

About the role

The Diagnostic Laboratory Technician I (Histology) supports the Veterinary Medicine & Small Animal Medicine & Surgery department at Texas A&M University. The role involves routine histology laboratory work, customer service assistance, and data compilation for research on small‑animal gastrointestinal health.

Key responsibilities

• Perform basic histology tasks including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, cover‑slipping and slide scanning.
• Generate and manage paperwork for histology submissions, including worksheets and client/pathologist communications.
• Maintain laboratory supplies, reagents, and equipment to ensure efficient operation.
• Log orders and receipts to guarantee timely delivery of materials.
• Monitor computer systems linked to lab equipment and assist with data collection for research projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Experience working in a laboratory environment preferred.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
• Physical ability to stand up to 8 hours and lift light objects.
• No inhibiting allergies to organic compounds, solvents, or animals.

• Hourly salary of $20.67
