Development Assembly Engineer

About the role

Excelitas Technologies, a manufacturer of ultra-precision optical components, thin-film coatings and optical sub-assemblies for lasers, materials processing, instrumentation, life sciences, avionics and defence, is hiring a Development Assembly Engineer in Boulder, Colorado. The engineer acts as a technical subject matter expert for optical assembly processes, develops tools and processes for new products, and supports order management, customer responsiveness and internal communication around order fulfilment.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as technical subject matter expert for optical assembly processes
• Develop tools and processes to enable manufacture of new products
• Analyse and validate assembly processes and tool designs
• Create and improve documentation for the manufacture of optical assemblies
• Train technicians on tools and processes for new assemblies
• Support troubleshooting of existing assembly tools and processes
• Monitor and drive improvement of production assembly processes using SPC
• Support procurement and quality with supplier evaluation and selection

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering or a related field (Physics, Mechanical Engineering, etc.); advanced degree desirable
• 5+ years of experience in an optics-related field desirable; coursework and enthusiasm considered in lieu of experience
• Optical metrology experience or interest highly desirable

Required skills

• Proficiency with SolidWorks or other CAD software desirable
• Experience with adhesive selection and troubleshooting desirable
• Proficiency with optical modelling software such as Zemax, Code V or FRED desirable
• Experience with optical alignment and bonding desirable
• Experience with automation programming (PC and/or PLC) desirable
• Experience with structured problem-solving tools (8D, DMAIC) and proficiency with SPC desirable

What we offer

• Pay range of $111,000 - $140,000 annually depending on experience
