Design Engineer – New Product Development

About the role

Clopay is seeking a Design Engineer to join its New Product Development team at the Mountaintop facility. The role focuses on designing new garage door products and improving existing designs through the full development cycle.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Project Engineers to develop new parts and systems for overhead doors.
• Create part and assembly drawings using Autodesk Inventor and apply standard drafting practices.
• Develop prototypes, maintain the shop area, and design test plans and fixtures.
• Generate engineering standards, calculations, and BOMs; manage engineering change orders.
• Write patents for novel designs and perform analyses such as FEA, wind load, and structural fastener evaluations.
• Validate designs against codes and standards (ASCE, IBC, UL) and produce test reports and installation instructions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or 5‑7+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong mechanical intuition with hands‑on aptitude for mechanisms.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain positive relationships with customers, vendors, and coworkers.

Required skills

• Autodesk Inventor (or SolidWorks) 3D solid modeling.
• Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
• Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and other engineering analysis tools.
• Experience with BOM management, ERP systems, and engineering change orders.
• Proficiency with hand tools and basic power tools.
