Deli Bakery Team Leader

About the role

Meijer is looking for a Deli Bakery Team Leader in Lowell who plans, directs and supervises team members in the day-to-day operations of the store's deli and bakery departments. The role acts as mentor and coach for team members, drives customer service and sales, and keeps the store appearance up to standard during peak hours.

Key responsibilities

• Provide courteous, friendly and efficient service to customers and team members, and spend most of the time in the store.
• Staff, select and hire to meet staffing needs, and promote succession planning with career paths and promotion accountability.
• Document and apply disciplinary actions and recommend discharge where needed.
• Own the P&L, achieve sales targets and maintain shrink for the department.
• Mentor and coach the team so that customer service and sales goals are exceeded and the area meets Meijer standards.
• Ensure the team is fully trained and has completed all required training.
• Promote a safe work environment and communicate the Meijer Friendly Initiative in all team meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2-3 years of related retail experience.
• One year of management experience.
• Rotational experience in other store areas such as meat, bakery, produce and deli, plus customer service and product flow experience, is helpful.
• Reliable and consistent attendance required.

Required skills

• Clear communication and conflict resolution, with attention to root causes.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and analyse financial and statistical information.
• Ability to teach suggestive selling and to mentor team members, including hourly workers and team leaders.
• Successful completion of all required certifications.
