Data Scientist, Basketball Data Strategy

About the role

The Data Scientist, Basketball Data Strategy, will join a dedicated analytics team supporting Basketball Operations. Reporting to the Senior Data Scientist, you will design, test, and deploy predictive models that influence player evaluation, roster construction, development, and in‑game strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Apply statistical analysis, machine learning, and predictive modeling to solve Basketball Operations challenges.
• Develop production‑ready models from exploratory analysis through validation and deployment.
• Integrate novel research, basketball metrics, and stakeholder data (e.g., G League, player health, NBA Draft) into applications.
• Collaborate with Development and Data Engineering teams to build visualizations, maintain data pipelines, and ensure model reliability.
• Manipulate large datasets, including geolocation tracking and biomechanical data, to generate actionable insights.
• Translate data‑driven findings into concrete basketball decisions and recommendations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in data science or machine learning.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python for end‑to‑end model development.
• Experience with scikit‑learn, TensorFlow, or similar machine‑learning libraries.
• Ability to work with large‑scale data using PySpark and SQL.
• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and modular code design.
• Understanding of cloud‑first principles and distributed computing.
• Experience with time‑series and probabilistic forecasting techniques.
