Data Scientist – Baseball Analytics

About the role

The Boston Red Sox are looking for a Data Scientist to join the Baseball Analytics group within Baseball Operations. You will develop and refine predictive models that directly influence player acquisition, development, and on‑field performance. This position offers the chance to apply advanced statistical techniques in a fast‑paced, data‑driven sports environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain predictive models and data pipelines that support player evaluation and performance optimization.
• Produce clear written reports and visualizations to communicate complex analyses to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Collaborate with the Baseball Systems team to integrate analytical insights into operational tools.
• Identify and resolve data quality issues proactively.
• Monitor emerging research and technologies in analytics to recommend innovative approaches.

Required profile

• PhD or master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., statistics, computer science, engineering).
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate research questions into actionable insights.
• Excellent communication skills for presenting findings to diverse audiences, including coaches, scouts, and executives.
