Data Science Co‑Op – Summer 2027

About the role

The Engineering & Data Science Co‑Op will support R&D teams at Ethicon, a Johnson & Johnson business, by analyzing surgical data, developing software tools, and conducting laboratory experiments during the Summer 2027 term.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze structured and unstructured surgical data sets to generate insights for robotics, handheld instruments, or digital product teams.
• Write software to enable collaborative data analysis and ensure data quality.
• Design and execute mechanical, electrical, and biological tissue laboratory experiments.
• Develop and optimize data visualizations for stakeholders.
• Contribute to product conceptualization for new surgical tools and platforms.

Required profile

• Enrolled in an accredited program pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical) or Computing (Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics).
• Minimum of two semesters completed (sophomore or above) with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States for the full co‑op term without future visa sponsorship.
• Demonstrated leadership or participation in campus or community activities and a strong interest in healthcare.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python.
• Experience with Python data‑science libraries (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Scikit‑Learn, PySpark).
• SQL knowledge.
• Data visualization tools such as Tableau.
• Version control using Git.
