Dairy Department Manager

About the role

Hy-Vee is looking for a Dairy Department Manager to lead one of its highest-traffic departments and make sure customers always find fresh, well-stocked products. The manager sets department standards, builds a welcoming atmosphere, analyzes sales trends and plans promotions, and works under the direction of the District Store Director, Store Manager and Assistant Managers.

Key responsibilities

• Set and uphold standards for customer service, cleanliness, sanitation, team relations and profitability
• Encourage the team to greet and engage customers, and assist customers with finding products, reaching items and carrying heavy purchases
• Recruit, hire, train, supervise and evaluate employees, and handle performance and disciplinary matters
• Coordinate scheduling, daily work plans and department goals with store leadership
• Oversee ordering, replenishment, pricing, invoicing and department bookkeeping
• Analyze weekly and monthly sales trends, prepare ad projections and plan promotions and displays
• Ensure proper product temperatures, storage procedures and freshness standards to minimize shrink
• Troubleshoot department equipment and coordinate maintenance, conduct inventory and manage product pre-orders
• Maintain compliance with dress code, hygiene standards and company policies, and assist in other store areas

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• One or more years of related work experience preferred
• Ability to lift, carry, push or pull objects weighing 100 pounds or more, and to stand and walk on hard surfaces for long periods
• Ability to work in coolers or freezers and in areas with temperature extremes and dampness
• Operator certification for pallet jacks, forklifts or similar equipment required before independent use; ability to use sharp knives and operate a cardboard baler or compactor where applicable
