Cytogenetic/FISH Technologist

About the role

AON Oncology is hiring a Cytogenetic/FISH Technologist for its AON Lab. Under general supervision, the technologist prepares bone marrow and peripheral blood specimens, analyzes chromosomes by G-banding and FISH, runs quality controls and maintains laboratory equipment. The position pays between $31.93 and $48.44.

Key responsibilities

• Perform culture initiation, harvest, slide preparation and G-banding of bone marrow and peripheral blood specimens, and analyze chromosomes by hand and with computer-assisted systems.
• Process and analyze FISH slides using automated software, including heme suspension probe sets (BCR/ABL, AML, CLL, MDS, MM panels) and HER2 tissue FISH.
• Analyze at least eight cytogenetic cases per 8-hour day with 98% accuracy, using the ASI Genesis automated capturing system and MetaSystems software.
• Prepare reagents, stains and media according to protocol, maintain equipment and perform daily QC/QC readings.
• Follow universal precautions, sterile technique and safety rules, and assist in training new employees.
• Take part in SOP development, validations, CAP proficiency surveys twice a year and in-services, and keep patient and employee information confidential.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Molecular or a related field.
• At least 1 year of related experience in a clinical setting.
• CG(ASCP) certification and a Florida clinical laboratory technologist or supervisor license for the tests performed.
• Valid driver's license and compliance with the company driver safety policy.
• Ability to work several days on shift, in a fast-paced, multi-site environment, and to work remotely when required.
