Customer Service Representative - Patient Registration

About the role

R1 RCM Inc. is recruiting a Customer Service Representative for Patient Registration at Ascension St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore. The role helps patients check into the hospital and answers their questions during registration, building trust by collecting information accurately and quickly while listening with compassion. The schedule is Sunday, Monday and Tuesday 7am-7pm and Wednesday 7am-1pm, for 40 hours per week.

Key responsibilities

• Work on computers and answer phones to intake patient information in a busy environment, using multiple screens and several programs.
• Type quickly and accurately, entering details that must be correct between physician and nurse check-ins, even when clinicians interrupt for emergent care.
• Help patients who may be very ill or anxious, asking follow-up questions and building rapport in real time.
• Collect patient and insurance information, dealing with the variation in health plans and coverage through training.
• Stand and move between systems, phone calls and in-person interactions in a fast-paced setting.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• No healthcare background needed: training is provided and the role is presented as a launchpad for a healthcare career.
• Up to date on all vaccinations, passes a drug test and a background check before hire.
• Willingness to work in a hospital/lab environment where illness and injury are seen.

Required skills

• Excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong composure and professionalism in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize quickly and pay close attention to detail.
• Comfortable shifting priorities based on patient needs.
• Typing speed and phone answering; experience with patient access, medical registration, insurance verification or front desk is a plus.

• Base pay of $16.12-$23.21 per hour, depending on role, level, location, experience and education.
