Customer Engineer - Process, Diagnostics, and Control

About the role

As a Customer Engineer at Applied Materials, you will act as the primary liaison with customers, installing, maintaining, and upgrading advanced semiconductor inspection systems. You will use digital analytics and diagnostic techniques to troubleshoot equipment and ensure optimal tool performance.

Key responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and upgrade Applied Materials PDC SEM‑based inspection systems.
• Troubleshoot equipment using standard diagnostics, escalating to senior engineers when needed.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electron‑beam, vacuum, electrical, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic, and gas systems.
• Support customers in improving defect inspection performance and yield.
• Communicate directly with customers to ensure tool uptime and performance.

Required profile

• Associate degree, technical training, or equivalent experience (Bachelor’s preferred).
• 4–7 years of experience in semiconductor equipment support or a related field.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a passport for travel.

Required skills

• Experience with SEM tools or e‑beam inspection systems.
• Knowledge of vacuum systems, electron‑beam fundamentals, and precision motion systems.
• Proficiency with hand tools, digital multimeters, and basic Microsoft Office.
• Mechanical aptitude with pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum, and thermodynamics.
