About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Courtesy Clerk in Fort Madison, Iowa, an essential part of the customer experience from the register to the car. The role keeps the store clean, stocked and welcoming, and involves packaging purchases, assisting customers and maintaining the store. Night and weekend shifts are required.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers with a smile, learn their names and make every visit a great one
• Package customer purchases and help them transport them to their vehicle
• Bring carts in from the parking lot and cart corrals during the shift
• Clean registers, restrooms, the break room and backroom, and sweep and mop floors as needed
• Clean the can redemption area and empty recycle bins where applicable
• Stock, face and rotate merchandise, clean shelves, read shelf tags and pull products forward to keep shelves full and organized
• Check prices on products as needed
• Maintain front-end supplies such as paper and plastic bags and receipt paper
• Train new courtesy clerks and deliver product to customers
• Assist in all departments as requested within wage and hour guidelines
• Shovel, salt and sand walkways as needed
• Work as a team, take on special projects and report to work on time

Required profile

• No education or experience required; all training is provided
• Ability to follow written or verbal instructions and to perform simple addition and subtraction accurately
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Physical demands include frequent standing and walking, and where applicable, using sharp knives and blades and exposure to heat and cleaning chemicals
