County Engineer

About the role

Pacific County's Public Works department, which builds, operates and maintains county-owned transportation, facilities, telecommunications and computer infrastructure, is hiring a full-time County Engineer. Reporting to the Public Works Director, the County Engineer plans, administers and coordinates engineering work on county roads and exercises considerable independent judgment on road design, construction and maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee design and maintenance of county roads, bridges, drainage systems and related infrastructure, including project scoping, program development, construction management and inspection.
• Review and approve engineering plans and specifications for development projects.
• Establish county engineering and construction standards and prepare project cost estimates.
• Certify project expenses and help develop the annual and six-year road programs.
• Serve as a liaison to local, state and federal agencies, county officials, contractors, consultants and the public.
• As supervisor, direct and evaluate staff, support employee development and promote teamwork and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related engineering field.
• Current Washington State Professional Engineer license in Civil Engineering, or the ability to obtain one within six months of hire.
• Valid driver's license, or ability to obtain one.
• The Board of County Commissioners may accept a satisfactory combination of experience and training.

• Pay of $107,808 to $149,220 depending on qualifications.

• Longevity incentive starting at 1.5% of base salary after five years, rising to 10% after 30 years.
