About the role
The Criminal Justice Center is seeking a qualified Nurse to provide comprehensive nursing care to inmate populations. The role involves direct patient care, coordination with physicians and correctional staff, and ensuring compliance with health regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Perform medical screenings, admissions, discharges, and transfers while maintaining accurate records.
- Deliver nursing interventions in line with state medical plans and physician orders.
- Administer medications and treatments safely, observing privacy and confidentiality.
- Monitor patient status, report changes to medical staff, and respond to care crises.
- Prepare and submit required reports, including annual reports to the Texas Department of Health.
Required profile
- Current, unrestricted Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Texas Board of Nursing.
- 1–2 years of nursing experience; correctional nursing preferred.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and autonomy in patient care decisions.
Required skills
- Knowledge of professional nursing principles, procedures, and documentation.
- Familiarity with PREA policies and correctional health regulations (preferred).
