Controls Engineer

About the role

BWI is looking for a Controls Engineer for its Warren, MI plant. The engineer supports the maintenance department by troubleshooting equipment issues, including PLC ladder logic and data handling functions in Control Logix processors. The position is part of the B-Crew, working Tuesday to Friday from 6:30 pm to 4 am.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain PLC documentation received from equipment suppliers and keep an archive of PLC programs and machine control drawings electronically and/or on paper across the facility.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and improve automated equipment, devices, I/O, instruments and other components to meet production and safety goals.
• Support I/O devices connected to PLCs such as HMIs, scanners, remote I/O, sensors, relays, solenoids and servo drives, and help maintenance personnel troubleshoot pneumatic circuits.
• Improve equipment uptime and contribute to plant reliability maintenance.
• Schedule and complete backups of electronic machine control and robotic programs, and develop and maintain preventive maintenance programs.
• Diagnose problems in hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems interfacing with electrical and electronic systems, and restore equipment to operation.
• Implement and maintain a data collection system from plant-floor processing equipment, identify and implement error-proofing requirements, and join a multi-disciplinary plant team on continuous improvement strategies.
• Plan for process impacts of engineering and launch changes, take part in 8D or similar root-cause problem solving, and contribute to equipment purchase specifications, reviewing controls drawings before build approval.

Required profile

• Degree in an engineering or electrical field preferred, or equivalent additional experience.
• 5-7 years of related controls engineering manufacturing experience; automotive experience preferred.

Required skills

• Allen Bradley PLC experience is a must.
• Knowledge of electronic and instrumentation principles.
